My application to trade options through my fidelity account was denied. Any other accounts you guys recommend opening that don't have strict requirements for options trading? I'm new to options and trading in general but have a mentor helping me who has about 10 years experience trading options. Use breakouts (like trend traders) for short term option trades (usually 1% for 3months.) Use mean reversion for longer term option trades (buy unloved blue chip stocks that have a great payoff if they come back in favour.) Stay away from selling options/insurance as its doesn't set you up for long term success and compounding of your capital. Options can be as simple as a long call (which is still complex if you truly understand options) or extremely complicated involving multi legs such as ratio spreads, iron condorsetc. keep doing your research if you truly want to use them in your portfolio but until you really understand them I would highly suggest to only paper trade them. Trading options is all about having an edge over other traders, and by strictly limiting your trades to stocks and sectors you know and have followed, you are automatically ahead. CONTROLLING YOUR RISK. Lots of people say trading options and buying calls/puts is risky.
